It houses the world's largest collection of historic aircraft and spacecraft, with thousands of pieces for viewing. It is open every day except for Christmas from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and offers free admission. This National Mall building does not have parking, but there are Metro stations nearby, L'Enfant Plaza and Smithsonian. Also, this museum has a second location, the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, which is located 30 miles west of Washington, D.C. in Chantilly, Virginia. This center houses numerous air and spacecraft too large to fit in the National Mall building. Nearby the main building are other attractions as well. There are many other museums comprising the Smithsonian, most open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. every day but Christmas, with free admission. These are spread around the National Mall and Washington D.C. Or you can explore the historic neighborhoods in the D.C. area, such as Foggy Bottom, Georgetown, Adams Morgan, and more, with their restaurants, clubs, and unique historic sites. Just travel around many of these communities to see 18th and 19th century houses still standing. The White House, U.S. Capitol, Supreme Court, and many more government buildings are here too, some of which you can tour. To access these attractions, you can use the WMATA Metro and bus lines, or parking garages and some limited street parking throughout the city.
