The National Aquarium is located in the Federal Triangle in central Washington D.C. It houses 250 species of aquatic life, with over 1500 specimens, including longsnout seahorse, red-bellied piranha, and electric eel. Its counterpart in Baltimore, Maryland, the National Aquarium in Baltimore, is larger, but the Washington, D.C. location is older, neither being part of the Smithsonian. The D.C. location is open every day from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and has animal feedings and aquarist talks at 2:00 p.m. every day. Parking is available across the street at the Ronald Reagan Building, or there are Metro stations nearby, Federal Triangle on the blue and orange lines, or Metro Center on the red line. Nearby the National Aquarium in Washington D.C. are other attractions as well. There are many museums comprising the Smithsonian, most open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. every day but Christmas, with free admission. These are spread around the National Mall and Washington D.C. Or you can explore the historic neighborhoods in the D.C. area, such as Foggy Bottom, Georgetown, Adams Morgan, and more, with their restaurants, clubs, and unique historic sites. Just travel around many of these communities to see 18th and 19th century houses still standing. The White House, U.S. Capitol, Supreme Court, and many more government buildings are here too, some of which you can tour. To access these attractions, you can use the WMATA Metro and bus lines, or parking garages and some limited street parking throughout the city.
