The Washington National Cathedral is located four miles northwest of central Washington D.C., featuring beautiful architecture and grounds, and the highest lookout point you can get to in Washington, D.C. Tours are available most every day from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekdays with varying weekend hours, every 30 minutes for the most part. Special tours, worship services, organ demonstrations, and more are offered at certain times, and details can be found at the National Cathedral's website. Parking is available in the Cathedral's underground parking garage, or on the grounds and surrounding streets. Also, the Metro has stations fairly close at Tenleytown or Cleveland Park, and buses run from these locations and others to the National Cathedral if you don't want to walk. Nearby the cathedral, you can tour the Kreeger Museum to view outstanding 19th and 20th century works of art. You may also desire to attend an event at the McLean Gardens Ballroom, which hosts special events in a place historically known to presidents and socialites as the only place to be. The Friendship Recreation Center, otherwise known as Turtle Park, is a great place to go as well, offering play areas and sport courts and fields just down the road from Washington National Cathedral. And there are hundreds of monuments and memorials located around D.C. dedicated to presidents, famous persons, veterans, and more that you can view for the most part at any time. To access these attractions, you can use the WMATA Metro and bus lines, or there is limited parking available on some streets.
